U.S. Pat. No. 5,356,330:  Apparatus for simulating a “high five.”

Background:

During a televised sporting event, a “high five” is commonly shared between fans to express the joy and excitement of a touchdown, home run, game-winning basket, birdie or other positive occurrence. Unfortunately, as known in the art, a “high five” requires the mutual hand slapping of two participants, wherein a first participant slaps an upraised hand against the elevated hand of a second participant. As such, a solitary fan is unable to perform a “high five” to express excitement during a televised sporting event.

Claims:

1. An apparatus for simulating a “high five” comprising:

     a first, movable arm portion for simulating a forearm, said first arm portion having a simulated hand secured thereto;

Ward Law Office had the opportunity to visit the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on July 21, 2017.  After some successful Examiner Interviews, had some spare time before the return flight.  So we decided to visit the National Inventors Hall of Fame and the National Mall in Washington, D.C.  Was a great (albeit scorching hot) day!

1.  A device for protecting animal ears comprising:

     a pair of generally tubular protectors each of which is formed of a sheet of self-biasing material which in their free state tend to form themselves into said generally tubular protectors;

The Muskegon Inventors Network (MIN) will host a program on intellectual property protection, covering inventions, patents, trademarks and copyrights on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The seminar will be held at the Muskegon Innovation Hub at Grand Valley State University 200 Viridian Drive, Muskegon, Michigan 49440.

Every business has intellectual property (IP), in one form or another. Protecting IP is important, but it can also be expensive. With startups especially, every dollar matters. Therefore, deciding whether and how to spend funds on IP protection is a key question that should be answered in the early stages of every new business.

Today is the 5th Anniversary of the Elijah J. McCoy Midwest Regional Patent Office. Seems like the gala was only yesterday!

JW Note:  Attended the USPTO Elijah J. McCoy Detroit Office Grand Opening Gala yesterday evening at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI.  Met a number of new Patent Examiners and Administrative Patent Judges (APJs).  Excited to have a satellite patent office located nearby!  This is a great opportunity for Detroit and the surrounding region.
